==========

You almost started to cry from joy upon hearing the words you never thought you personally would have to hear. It was the most heavenly sound you had possibly ever heard. It was as if you were already saved and safely away from Matt, Al and the others forever.

“Hello? 9-1-1. What’s your emergency?” the kind lady on the other end of the phone repeated in hopes of hearing your reply.

“Thank you…” You softly cried into the phone. you didn't sob or cry uncontrollably. Just let a few tears fall as your voice shook from the relief that washed over your entire being. It felt as if you were just sucking in new life into your eternal soul. It was the closest thing to heaven you thought you’d ever feel.

“Ma’am?” The lady asked in confusion to your reply. You started to snap back into reality. The reality that you weren't safe yet.

“Yes. Right. Ummm… My name is __________ ___________. I was kidnapped from [home town] a little over a week ago by a psychopath called Matt. He dragged me across the border and has held me prisoner in __________ woods here in Canada. I've managed to find a map of this little area he lives in and disconnected his phone safety system. I need your help. The woods surrounding the cabin are dangerous and uncharted after a mile and a half out. They’re also surrounded by traps. Various traps. It’s not safe to leave. Especially since I have no idea where Matt currently is. Please. If I give you the best directions I can will you send the police?” you explained. This was what she needed to know in the most simple way possible.

“_________ __________?” she asked again.

“Yes. You don’t know how happy I am to finally hear someone other than Matt’s voice.” you replied thankfully.

“Ma’am. I mean no offense but… I don’t know how much I really believe that you’re that poor girl Matt kidnapped.” Should've known it wasn't going to be this easy.

“Errr….How should I prove that I’m me?” You asked.

“... What’s something only she would know?” she suggested. You thought for a minute before replying.

“... Matt’s full name is Matthew Williams and he travels in a red pick up truck.” There was silence on the other end before she confirmed that what you said was true and that they now had a small background of Matt before he was on radar for murdering and such. She then asked for location which made realization dawn on you. The map didn't label the town you were closest too. And if it did you didn't see it so you thought it’d be better if you checked again.

“Ummmm…” You said pulling the map back out of your pocket and looking at the not in the corner again. “It’s about 15 miles Northwest of the closest town. The only problem is that the town’s name isn't labeled on here.”

“Hmm… That’s going to make things harder. Those woods are dangerous alone. Trying to find a place that’s been hidden for many years without proper directions is going to be close to impossible.” the lady replied much to your dismay.

“We could send out a search team but we've searched those woods countless times and haven’t found anything.” the lady continued.

“You’re right. A search team wouldn't be able to find this place… Heck. I’m not even sure how Matt can find this place regularly… We need a plan.I need to think. Give me a minute. Don’t hang up though...” You said and got a “Sure thing” as a response.

She was right. And that’s what scared you. Matt may not be home but there was no way you were going to get out of this without running into him again. The only chance you’d have for freedom is if you managed to get to the town where the police were waiting for you. But you’d never survive these woods for fifteen miles unarmed, unprotected from the weather and unaware of any of your surroundings. You’d need some supplies.

But that just might work. Matt wasn't home. You could gather some supplies and ditch now. Use the map from the attic to avoid his traps. Eventually though you’d have to guesstimate the direction unless you found a compass to put in the survival kit. And the chances of that were thin. Unless…

“Hey. You still there?” You asked into the phone.

“Yes.” was the short reply you got.

“Alright. I have a plan. I’m gonna need your help though.” You say as to start to travel upstairs again with the keys Matt forgot.

“Okay. What’s your plan?” she asked calmly. You unlocked a door upstairs. It was just a storage room so you started searching and exploring it.

“I’m going to set up a small survival kit with whatever I can find and some food. I’m going to go into the woods and use the map until I no longer can. From there, if I don’t find a compass, I’ll try to guesstimate where I’m going. If I’m not caught and if I’m not dead, I should eventually reach the town. I need you to have a police officer or two patrolling that area for the next few days. If I get to the town I’ll locate the officers and follow them to the police station. After I've recovered a little bit, I’ll show them to the cabin and everything I possibly can.” You explained. You managed you find an olive green messenger bag and a blanket while explaining your plan. After such you found a large coat and some matches.

You left the room and locked it again before looking for another room to raid.

“You going to be alright? What if you’re not at the town in a few days?” the lady asked.

“... Then send the search party. He doesn't know I've contacted you.” You said in response. You didn't want to think about what might happen if you get caught.

“And how many days should we patrol the northwest ends of the towns near those woods?” the lady asked for confirmation. You thought for a minute. Knowing where you are and what direction you’re going in is a different situation than the one you were in. Typically though, with those in play a person can hike fifteen miles in a day. But because you don’t have that luxury you might take longer. Theoretically, taking into consideration how long it took Matt to find you when you first got here, he’d probably find you in about 3 days max. So if you weren't in the town in three days, you were captured. Unless by some miracle you made it you’d just have to find the police station yourself on the fourth day.

“Three days. Give me three days. If I’m not there and don’t show up at the police station for the rest of the week, I was captured or killed.” You said it lightly but really wished that it wouldn't come to that.

“Okay. I will alert the towns nearby the woods. Please be careful on your way, _________. The police and your family is very worried. They’ll be overjoyed to know you’re attempting to return to them soon.” the lady said.

“Thanks. I plan to be careful just so I can see them all again someday.” You smiled sheepishly. Wow. Smiling. That’s something you forgot what it felt like now that you thought about it.

You two then ended the conversation as you tried the find the necessary tools for your escape. So far you had found a rope, pocket knife, an empty reusable bottle for water and an old pair of boots. Hiking boots. All of these you found to be useful. Packing everything you then went to pack some food. Your food consisted of granola bars, a few various fruits and some beef jerky you found in the pantry. You then proceeded to wash and fill the reusable bottle when through the dead silence of the house you heard a door slam loudly.

It had come from out front that much you knew. And if it was who you thought it was, you were in trouble. You felt the fear raise in your chest and accelerate your breathing as you quickly cut off filling the water bottle about half way and closed it off. You heard another door slam and quickly ran to the living room to grab your bag of goodies and run back into the kitchen shoving the now bottled water into the bag.

Ducking behind the counter and hiding the survival kit in the cupboard under the sink you laid in wait as you heard the front door open and Matt’s signature heavy boots announcing his presence. Your breath caught in your throat even though you knew Matt had no idea what you were up to. But if he found out. If you had slipped up somewhere today. You were sure to get into major trouble. He’d probably be more than pissed and possible treat you like one of his victims from here on out.

The thought of being tortured slowly in every way you hate then painfully and agonizingly murdered terrified you more than you had been since the start of your adventure. The symptoms were clearly shown all over you. Your face was probably paler than Kumo when he was clean. Your hands were sweaty and shaking. Your heartbeat was so fast and loud you wouldn't be surprised if Matt knew you were in the kitchen because he could hear it. You practically reeked of fear.

But you had to be brave. No matter how scared or fearful you were you had to be brave. This might be your last opportunity to get out alive. There was no going back anymore anyways. Not that you wanted to but there’s no way the ruthless Matt would show mercy. You could just see him in that sadistic form like he was in when you crossed the border to Canada. Except this time, the rage and evil in his mind and body was directed at you.

There was a loud thump on the wooden floor of the foyer and the sound of Matt dragging something large and heavy across the floor and the carpet into the living room. You didn't dare look to see what he brought home. All you knew was that he was heading to the basement since the door that lead there was across the living room. You listened intently as he dragged whatever poor thing was with him across the room when he suddenly stopped.

Remembering when your curiosity got the better of you and you regretted it you refrained from peeking around the corner and through the doorway to see why he stopped. You got your answer though when you heard the keys that led to the rooms up stairs and to the attic were picked up off the coffee table.

Quietly swearing you heard the keys get shoved into Matt’s pocket before he started dragging the same object towards the basement. You heard some rummaging around the basement door before hearing the lock be undone and the door being opened. The pitiful thing Matt had with him was dragged down the stairs into the basement very harshly and when you could no longer quite hear Matt as pronouncedly you crept out of your hiding space and as quietly and as quickly as possible you went to the stairs. By the time you got there though, Matt had been making his way upstairs as well. There was no way you’d fully make it up the stairs without being spotted.

‘Think! Think!! You've got to improvise!!’ you screamed mentally at yourself before going up a few steps and turning around to walk down them normally. You’d have to face him eventually now that he was home and this was the better option for you. Going down the stairs normally Matt was just stepping into the living room as you were about two steps from the ground floor.

“I thought I heard you come in.” you said as casually and as normal as you possibly could. It was hard seeing Matt in the state he was in though. He was covered in dirt and had some blood splattered here and there. It also looked as though he had something draped over his shoulder at one point. Something that was bleeding badly. The stare Matt had in his eyes was dead, almost zombie like. It was cold and looking into them you could see that he was suffering from something. They almost cried out. And that feeling of them crying out you used to think was his mind screaming in rage or madness. But now you could see it was a cry of lost hope and agony. It broke your pulsating heart.

Matt only grunted in response before turning around and locking the basement door. The key was shoved in his pocket and Matt proceeded towards the kitchen. You followed knowing now or later and to make sure he didn't find your survival kit under the sink.

“What? You’re not even going to say anything? What was that thing I thought I heard you drag in? And why is it here?” You pressed as Matt pulled a can of beer from the fridge and opened it.

“That thing was my next victim. I’m getting bored again so it’s here to entertain me. Hopefully.” Matt replied bluntly before taking a swig of his beer. You thought you saw a little bit of life come back into him before he turned to you. You jumped a little at the sudden attention change before he started for the living room again. You followed after him again just to make sure he didn't double back when he suddenly stopped in the middle of the doorway and turned to you. You nearly bumped into him, thus startling you. He turned to face you with a suspicious look on his face before speaking.

“... You look like you want to ask me something. Something you’re afraid to ask me about.” Matt said. He was way off. But this was better than what you were really up to so you went with it. Except your mind was in full on panic mode from not knowing what to ask. What could you ask? It had to be a serious question since he was staring at you so intently.

What to ask? What to ask? What was there to ask? What more was there to ask?! Other than…

“Why were you and Al at my school that day?”
